– Hi Tony, When and how did your journey in music begin?
“I have always been connected to music — singing in church, school, or just around the house. I began my career as a solo artist seriously in 2014, leaving my job as a choir director to focus on music. Things really kicked off for me in 2025, and this year marks ten years as an independent artist — something I’m very proud of!”
– Which musicians or artists have inspired you the most?
“I’m inspired by great performers who didn’t just sing, but created fully realized moments. Michael and Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Usher, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears — all icons. I also really connect with current artists like Bruno Mars, Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, and Labrinth. I love how their minds work and the immersive experiences they create.”
– Which of your songs or projects are you most proud of, and why?
“I’m most proud of my latest album LUX. Not only is it thematically my strongest body of work, but it’s also the first where I handled most of the vocals myself. It truly showcases my vocal and artistic growth. It’s been respected not just by fans but also by peers in the industry — and that means the world to me.”
– What has been the biggest challenge in your music career, and how did you overcome it?
“My biggest challenge was being comfortable with being me. I started as a gospel artist and found success but not fulfillment. When I shifted to pop/R&B, I felt more at home, but still pressured to follow trends. During the pandemic in 2020, I did a lot of personal reflection and connected deeply with who I am and what Tony Aye! should stand for. Since then, I’ve embraced myself — as a Black and LGBTQ+ artist — and shared more personal music. I finally feel successful and fulfilled.”
– What makes you happiest when you’re not making music?
“I love spending time with friends and family. I’m a huge gamer — especially into JRPGs — and I enjoy watching anime or YouTube retrospectives. I’m also a massive RuPaul’s Drag Race fan. I never miss an episode!”
– What’s the most unforgettable feedback you’ve received during your career?
“To accept that not every opportunity is your opportunity. And to make sure anything you do is right — not rushed. As an indie artist, we’re often told to grab every chance, but I’ve learned to ride my wave, not someone else’s.”
– What’s one piece of advice you’d share with the next generation of artists?
“Be authentic. No one can do you better than you! Don’t be afraid to present your sound your way — you’ll build a fanbase that truly resonates with who you are.”

Tony Aye! Shines Bright with His New Album LUX
Tony’s award-winning studio album, **LUX**, was released on August 9, 2024. The album celebrates his 10-year journey as a recording artist, taking listeners on a sonic journey through a night at the club. From upbeat dance tracks like *”LUX,” “Illuminate,”* and *”Crossroads”* to sensual love songs such as *”Skyline”* and the sultry *”XOXO,”* LUX delivered a blend of rhythmic exploration and introspective depth. The album has been well-received by fans, peers, and critics. In 2025, the album won the award for Best Pop Album at The Global Music Awards, Spring Session.
“XOXO,” in particular, stands out as an anthem of sensuality and intimacy, drawing inspiration from iconic songs like Beyoncé’s *”Blow,”* Prince’s *”Kiss,”* and Janelle Monáe’s *”Make Me Feel.”* This album showcases Tony’s growth as an artist and celebrates the various eras of his career with intricate melodies, layered harmonies, and emotive lyricism.
